Tirano to... anywhere by train?

I was hoping to take the Bernina Express (or local equivalent) to Tirano and then train it to Verona and then Venice. But I'm being told you can't get to Milan, Verona, or Venice from Tirano by train, and instead have to take a taxi to a different station!

I've looked it up, and it seems like it'd be pretty straightforward -- just one change to Verona, at least -- but folks are telling me I'm mistaken. Can anyone clarify??

When are you traveling? Right now there is a track construction project requiring a bus link between Tirano and Colico on the way to Milan. Not a taxi. If you buy a ticket on Trenitalia the bus is included.

If you are traveling Sept. 9 or after, the regular train should be running, so it is a straightforward trip by train to either Venice or Verona, most connections with a single change at Milano Centrale.

The Bernina Express arrives on the Swiss Rail side of the station. You have to take a tunnel under the tracks to get to the Trenitalia side. The rail replacement bus will be just outside of the Trenitalia side if you are traveling while there is still construction on the rail line. Service to Milan is every 1 - 2 hours in general, depending on the time of day.

I do not believe Linda M's information is correct. The RhB (Bernina Express) station and the Trenord station (Italian trains to Milan) are totally separate stations, across a piazza from each other. You do not need to take a tunnel at the RhB station, just walk down the platform to the station, then outside. You should see the Trenord replacement buses (if they are ready to load) outside the Trenord station across the piazza. After September 8, regular rail service resumes on the Trenord line.

Sam, I stand corrected. You are right, you can just walk across the piazza if you prefer, but there is also a tunnel connecting the two stations.
