Tirano, Italy to Como, Italy by train

how to get from Tirano, Italy to Como, Italy by train.
We are 6 seniors that do very little train travel in Europe. Will be in Tirano after a Bernina Express adventure in very early April, 2020. How is the best way...using mostly trains to get from Tirano, Italy to Como, Italy. I am assuming train to one of the east side towns by train then a ferry to Como. Would this be correct. Do we reserve train ahead of time or just go to station when we arrive in Tirano...maybe have lunch in Tirano as I am assuming we will be in Tirano a tad after high noon (We are leaving from Chur for the morning Bernina Express I believe it leave a bit after 8AM each day) and same with the ferry...just go to ferry dock and get tickets when we arrive at Verenna or Bellagio or ?). Any advice on times ...when Bernina Express arrives in Tirano during spring and do ferries run all day. Have no clue but it is a dream of a lifetime.
Thanks ... Val et al.

Trains Tirano to Como S Giovanni, around three hours with a change in Monza. To Como Nord Lago a change; thirty minutes more. Schedules past December 14 not available due to a schedule change.

These are regional trains with no seat assignments and no discounts; and they never sell out. Purchases from the web site save time at a station window or ticket machine if one does not have the Trenitalia app..

It would be more scenic, but longer, ro travel by train from Tirano to Varenna then by ferry from Varenna to Como. Trains are frequent (too early to check schedules) ; for ferry schedules check the "Navigazione Laghi" website.

We went from Chur to Tirano on the Bernina Express, with an overnight in Muottas Muragl, then on to Varenna, and the help desk at the train office in Chur worked out all the times and printed all the tickets. We stayed overnight in Chur and got all our tickets the afternoon before. I'm sure you probably know that trains run on the Bernina Express tracks all day, with many choices of departure times, but the red trains are specifically called the "Bernina Express." It's a beautiful trip; think I enjoyed it even more by breaking it into two 4-hour journeys.
