Traveling with a friend through Venice during Easter this year and then taking the train to Santa Margherita for a few days afterwards. I've done some research and it looks like the Easter holiday shouldnt put a damper on too many activities in Venice during those days. I've been to Venice two times before, but am wondering if there is anything especially worth checking out in late April? Any local favorite restuarants or church reccomendations for Easter mass? My time in Santa Margherita will be my first visit to the region. We plan to venture into Portofino for the day and were told to check out the Cinque Terre region. Any specific restuarants or activies that are an absolute "can't miss?" Appreciate any and all help!
What to do in the CT depends a lot on how much time you want to spend their and your desire to embark in sometimes strenuous hikes. All the towns are great to visit have wonderful vistas. Our favorite meal was in the old part of Monterosso at Ristorante Via Venti. We also ate at Al Castello in Vernazza, a restaurant on the top of the castle. The scenery was more memorable than the food at the latter. We hiked the five towns ourselves though, with the two hikes to the north being the most difficult and longest, if you were pressed for time, you could take the train between those 3 towns (or all 5). The Via dell'Amore between Riomaggiore and Manarola is quite short and kind of a kitschy and fun jaunt, the others, especially the longer, tougher first two, offer amazing vistas. RS section on the CT details how to take a vineyard path around the town of Manarola. I recommend this, it offered some great views of the town. If you want to visit a very nice winery, the Buranco vineyard is in Monterosso. Go to the old town and venture up the left most (facing town - V Emmanuel)street up the hill out of town. We didn't attend mass in Venice, if you are interested in an English speaking mass, your hotel should know if it's not available online.
