Tipping question on private tour. We are on a private tour with the company amazing Italy. The guys are great and the tour has been fabulous. I’m wondering if it’s customary to tip on top of the $300 per person paid for the tour? There is a driver and a tour guide. Thanks in advance.
you have agreed a price just stick to that as far as I am concerned there is no need to tip on top of that.
The brochure you got whenever you signed up should say whether or not tips are expected, or accepted. On RS tours, there's no tipping of guides and drivers, but it's clearly stated in the materials. Other tour catalogues I have looked at usually suggest appropriate tip levels.
Personally, I'm with Unclegus.
I am in the tipping category myself. I would give 10-15 euro to the tour guide and 3 or so to the driver. They always seem to appreciate it.

“They always seem to appreciate it.” No kidding. You mean they don’t haughtily return it to you?
A local tour outfit here in their latest catalogue suggests $3 per day per traveler for the tour guide, and another $3 per traveler per day for the bus driver. The domestic tours range from 1 day to about 10 days. With say, 40 people on the bus, that's not bad. Maybe they don't pay their staff?
Yes, Norma, people who receive tips do appreciate it. In case you are unaware, unemployment in Italy is high and wages are low. It is difficult for many people to make a living. I have had some wonderful tour guides. The least I can do is tip them. You are of course free not to do so.

On a private tour, I would absolutely expect to tip.
