Timing of Vatican Museum visit in February

Now that we've decided on our rough itinerary, I'm trying to work out the details. We will arrive in Rome on Friday 2/26 around 11:10 to Termini so I was thinking of maybe trying to visit the Vatican Museums in the afternoon on Friday. We are staying at the IQ Hotel Roma so near Termini and the Repubblica metro stop. That Sunday is the free admission Sunday so I think we definitely want to avoid that. The other options would be Saturday or Monday but I wasn't sure how busy those days would be if the museum is also open on Sunday?

Thank you in advance.

Saturdays and Mondays are much busier than Fridays.

Kathleen, don't forget about the jet lag and time difference. If you are flying overnight from MN I'm sure you will be extremely tired. I would suggest spending the day walking around and just enjoying the area and have a nice dinner. But then again I'm not sure how long you plan on staying in Rome. Just a thought. Have you travelled internationally before? Jet lag is tough 😀

I have traveled internationally before and I know that I do suffer from jet lag, and my mom as well. I'm hoping though by the time we reach Rome we should be ok as we have 4 nights in Italy before we get to Rome.

I think we are going to plan on Friday afternoon for the museum.

Good plan Kathleen, as long as you are already adjusted!

We stayed in the iQ Hotel Roma in May. It is a great hotel.

You may want to consider the Vatican Museum night tour which are only on Fridays from 7 to 11 pm. Less crowded than during the day. You can book on the official website. However the 2016 schedule is not up yet.

We also arrived in Rome on a Friday. We checked in. Took the metro to St Peters. Went for dinner. Visited the Basilica and then walked to the Vtican Museum for our 7:30 pm admission.
