Timing and Transportation to Naples International Airport, Italy

Hello all,
I have a very early morning flight - around 6am- from Naples Airport in November. I will be staying near Palazzo Dante, Naples. I've emailed my hotel with inquiry about their ordering or arranging airport transportation and am awaiting an answer.

My questions: How long does it take for a cab to get to the airport? any road construction delays? any strikes scheduled?

Traffic at that time of the day?
And assuming an hour, will there be any difficult ordering a cab at 3am?

Would I be smarter to check in to a hotel close to the airport the night before the flight?
I've noted that Naples Taxi drivers sometimes fiddle with the fees - so what would be a fair taxi fee with two pieces of small luggage from Palazzo Dante.

Thank you all,
Elaine

If you are staying in central Naples there’s no need to move to an airport hotel. Your regular hotel will almost certainly order a cab for you - I have never seen a hotel that won’t do that.
If for some reason it won’t, you can pre-arrange a car service to come get you. I am not sure how many taxis will be out that early so arranging ahead is smart.

The airport is close. I’d say 15 minutes away. Google says 10. The Naples Airport opens at 3:30 AM, you can’t get in earlier than that and if your flight is within the EU you want to get there at 4. So you want to leave your hotel at 3:45. 3:30 if you are being conservative on all fronts.

Airport trips in Naples are a fixed price and include luggage. You can find and download the Italiano PDF with all the fixed rates to wave in his face. But when he asked us for 2 Euros for the bags I just went with the flow! I feel that a hotel pickup is less abused than a street or airport hail. Why not ask the bellman to give the destination and confirm the price? You’re going to tip him for loading the bags anyway.

If you find the PDF I’ll bet it has the off-hour surcharges on it. I’d worry more about a holiday than about 3 AM. Make sure the hotel has all night staffing.

Here's the fixed rate tariff. Print and take it with you. Airport is about 5 miles, that early in the a.m. Should take 10min. Cost around 25€.

Hello every one and thank you for your help. I don't travel much and so ALL of your ideas are very helpful! Keep them coming.
I didn't see the link for the fixed rate tariff. ?
I never heard of an airport closing or opening, so very good to know that the airport opens at a certain time.

Good idea to have the doorman help with the taxi arrangements.
Again, thank you all very much!

I am sure your 6am flight is a domestic flight to somewhere else in Europe so I would plan to be at the airport around 4.30 am. At that time of morning, you will not encounter much in the way of lines or delay.

At that time of the day, the airport is generally not too busy. Check with your airline to see what they advise as the time to arrive at the airport. Last October, flying out of Turin, I arrived at 6am for a flight at 7. The airlines counter personnel arrived at 6:30. Time for a last espresso and cornetto.

Small airports usually do not have flight slots between late night and early morning so they close. It's not at all unusual. It is possible/likely that there's are workers there, like maintenance, but security, check-in and the like will only open a couple hours before the first flight out in the morning and will close after the last passenger of the evening leaves, at which time they close the entrances and exits except for employees.

And for your future reference, some large airports (like Tokyo) close at night for noise laws, or to keep the homeless away.

Yes Frank, it is a domestic flight to Germany.
Well, I have learned so much from you all! The hotel says it call a taxi for me, or order a car.
So, again, thank you all so very very much! I am traveling alone - something I've never done before - and you all have helped a great deal!
Thank you!!

We had a 7 am flight out of Naples. Apparently stop lights are optional at 5 am! We went through them and were at the airport in 10 minutes!
So hang on!
