Ok, need last minute advice from RS hive mind here. Leaving tomorrow (yay!) for 2 weeks in Italy. Flight into Milan got cancelled this am (boo! - thanks planned strike). Rerouted to arrive in Nice, France on 6/4 instead so I don't miss any vacation days (yay!). Now - on to rerouting the train portion. I had purchased tickets on Trenitalia in advance bc Milan-Genoa is IC train requiring reservations. I booked it all the way through to Vernazza (the end destination of Arrival Day) bc what could go wrong. I have cancelled the Milan-Genoa route for refund (yay Base Class ticket!). The Levanto-Vernazza leg is the regional 5euro ticket. If I cancel the ticket currently booked at 17:15 I lose all the $. Coming from Nice, train connections get me to Levanto a bit later. Based on timetable, it appears I could make the 20:15 train leaving Levanto.
Question #1 is - Does the 4 hr time window hold at the CT regional trains? I read somewhere that Liguria is only 75min. If 4 hr window possible, then I'll keep by original Levanto-Vernazza ticket and book Nice to Levanto. I assume I have to remember to go on app and change time. Currently Trenitalia it will not let me change just time of day, it wants me to change days. I only want to move it back by 3-ish hrs.
Question #2 - if the 4 hr window is not there, am I better off booking Nice all the way to Vernazza or Nice to Levanto? If the latter, I could then ask about my pre-exisiting ticket at the platform. If it's a no, then I can buy Levanto to Vernazza right there, yes?
Question #3 - I know that the connection path is Nice-Ventamiglia-Genoa-Levanto-Vernazza. Likely buying ticket from Nice to Levanto/Vernazza via thetrainline.com and looks like they are all regional trains. How risky would it be to just wait and buy the Nice-Levanto tickets once I get there and am sure no other travel snafus happening? The ticket class looks non-refundable. *** I am a complete planner, even thinking of landing in my not-planned-destination-city without confirmed train tickets and winging all it makes me want to throw up.
I presume 4 hrs between arrival at Nice airport and departure at train station is comfortable cushion. If you have any tips for the Nice-Ventamiglia-Genoa-Levanto/Vernazza journey, I'd love to hear them. Trying to reroute with 24 hrs before departure is making my head spin.
