Time to go into Venice on day of departure.?

We get off a cruise and have transfers to the Venice airport. 2 hr trip. Would we have time to go into Venice on day of travel or are we pushing it ? What do you do with luggage?

We would need to know time for disembarking from the ship and time of your flight. Luggage can be stored at the train station.

Hello jserv13, and welcome to forum,

Venice airport is pretty close but Venice is logistically more difficult than most cities to get into and out of so whatever your time is I'd make sure you have plenty of extra space in your schedule before committing.

Also if this is a cruise disembarking day you'll want extra time at the airport because it is not that big and the crush of cruise ships can impact the time it takes to get through security etc.

Venice is amazing if you can make the time,

since most cruise ships are no longer permitted to dock in Venice you may well be being brought in from Ravenna or one of several other ports. With a 2 hour bus ride for what would take 20 minutes from Venice that is probably the case. Where does you boat actually dock?

Having been on many cruises, I can say that you may or may not get off the ship as early as you think. If it is a two hour trip to the airport, it should be about the same to Venice as they are not all that far apart. So, two hours to get to Venice, three hours to spend in Venice, at least an hour to get to the airport. Six hours already. Then another two hours (at least) to be at the airport before your flight. I love Venice, and I hate raining on your parade, but I just don't think it's feasable. Just my opinion.

Easy answer is no. But would help to know time of transfer and of flight.

As cruise ships no longer dock in Venice itself, you will dock at either Ravenna or Chiogga. The transfer will take you to the Venice airport and you would then need to get the bus or one of the boat options into Venice, which could take up to an hour, and then same time back to the airport. If taking an international flight you need to allow at least 3 hours, before flight otherwise two hours, and the airport is chaotic on cruise ship day..

Can you change your flight so you can at least spend the night in Venice? If you did that you could leave luggage at airport, assuming facilities there, and just take what you need for a night into Venice and leave overnight bag at hotel while you explore.

Yes, I was not sure if we would have time, but we are so close from the airport to see Venice.
We may have to stay over.
We arrive in Trieste port at 6:30 am, but not sure when we can disembark. Also we booked our flights through NCL, so we don’t have our schedule yet, but hoping for a late flight …wishful thinking.
Thank you all

It’s 2+ hours by train from Trieste to Venice, or two by road, not counting time getting off the ship, to the station, or to your bus.
If I were you, I would try to spend a couple of nights in Venice….you are so close, why wouldn’t you….its very worthwhile adding on a few days.
Can you change your flights?

that will be interesting. No wonder the 2 hours.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have to stay over anyway because most of the connecting flights from Venice are very early in the morning.

I hope you'll fill us in once you know how it will go. We may even have a suggestion for a hotel.

It is unlikely that your flight from Venice to the US/Canada (either direct or with a layover in Europe somewhere) will be a later flight. Most flights will be departing in the morning.
