Time issue -- Sorrento vs. Naples hotel stay question -- revised

Hi Everyone, Our trip is now 3 weeks away. We are very excited! Our after-the-official-tour plans include traveling to Pompeii, Capri, Sorrento and part of the Amalfi Coast. In earlier posts I mentioned that we would be doing the "after-tour" for three days and two nights. On our last day, we planned to take a boat from Sorrento to Naples, and then taxi from the Port of Naples to our hotel in the Chaia neighborhood (one of the nicer areas of Naples recommended by Rick). The airport is only 15 min. shuttle service drive away from our hotel. (We will be taking a 6am flight.) However, I was thinking of revising our plans and staying the third (partial night) in Sorrento. The private car service (not shuttle because it's too early in the morning) would take us from the hotel to the Naples airport. It is a 1 1/2 hour drive and we would have to leave 3am in the morning or a little earlier (a bit of a drive). (The hotel uses this car service and the car service informed us that the roads at 3am are not busy.) I am not that excited about traveling to Naples, as it is basically to spend the night. Maybe we would look around a little and go to a cool Rick recommended pizza place (I think it is called Michel's or something similar). If we move forward with that plan, we have to make sure not to miss our boat to Naples ( we do not want to take the train or bus). I believe the last boat from Sorrento to Naples is around 6pm. Also, on our last day in Sorrento, we will have to store our luggage someplace when we go sightseeing, as our hotel is up on a hill and the check-out time is 11am, so it is probably not feasible to store our luggage there. If we stayed the 3rd night in Sorrento, we might have a little more time to explore that beautiful area. Your thoughts will be much appreciated. Ruth

Personally, I always like to be in the city I am flying out of at least the night before the flight. Too many things can go wrong if you're in another city which can cause you to miss the flight. There could be an accident causing traffic backups, the car service might not show up, The driver could get lost..... There are too many things, in my opinion, that could go wrong and cause you to miss the flight. I would suggest staying with the original plan of staying in Naples. Donna
