Is it possible to see these sites in 2 1/2 days. We will be in Rome for 3 nights and want to see: Vatican Colosseum Trevi Fountain
Spanish Steps If we can see more that would be great but for sure we wan to see those.
You shouldn't have any problem. I covered pretty much the same ground, plus the Forum, and a lot of aimless wandering, in about the same amount of time. Note, I got an early start and didn't stop for lunch, but I was also in my late 50's at the time. Enjoy!
You can do the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps in one day or less. But allow time for one full day or 2/3 day for the Vatican. The Vatican ( get tickets in advance to avoid a long wait in line) is made up of the vast museum which you can spend hours in, then the Sistine Chaple and St Peters Church. So spending time in the museum could take up most of your day if you enjoy museums. Walking at nite you will spend time at the trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps. Get a ticket for the Colosseum and the Forum. Have a great time and you may even be able to see more and see some churches.
Ditto Ann. And while the Colosseum does take some time, and the Trevi Fountain is lovely but not time-consuming (be sure to see it both by day and by night), the Spanish Steps is a non-sight. That is, unless you are seeking the American Embassy or one of the world's largest McDonalds branches. I wasn't, and a few minutes at the steps were QUITE sufficient.
Its easily done plus the forum and the Borgello ( though you should get there first thing in the morning )
We did the Vatican on day one from 9 AM till 4 PM then came back and did the spanish steps, Trevi Fountain and the Panthenone and walked around aimlessly and visited different piazza: ) On day 2 do the Colosseum, Roman Forum ( they are close to each other ) and Borgello . Enjoy !
I did all that plus popping into the Pantheon one evening. And I twisted my ankle in the Forum on the first day! (Be careful on the steps overlooking the site of the Vestal Virgins' home.)
If you enjoy art, you might want to add the Borghese Gallery; U think you'd have enough time. It's a remarkable collection. But you do need advance reservations for a specific time, and you need to get there at least a half hour before your entry time. You could check their website to see if it might appeal to you.
I agree, the Spanish Steps were a waste for us. And be very careful of the pickpockets at the Trevi Fountain. It's pretty, both in the daytime and at night, but the immense crowds ruined it for me. I'd prefer Piazza Navona anyday.
Paticia, No problem. I would devote on full day to the Vatican (Vatican Museum & St. Peters Basilica) I took a tour of The Vatican Museum with Through Eternity Tours (www.througheternity.com) and I am glad I did! The VM is too huge. They did a great job in explaining the highlights of the museum and gave the art a lot of meaning. This tour ends in the Sistine Chapel. St. Peters Basilica is a must also. You can do this after the tour. Just be sure to check their hours. I would devote the next day to the Colosseum/Palantine Hill/Forum. If you do not purchase the Roma Pass, bypass the line (it will be long) at the Colosseum by purchasing the Colosseum /Palatine/Forum Pass at the Palatine ticket window. The line will very short there. You might have to go into the Palatine, but this is something that you would want to see anyway. For both the Vatican & Colosseum, start early in the morning. Devote one of your evenings to the Trevi Fountain, for you will want to see this in the evening. The Spanish Step can be done before or after seeing the Trevi Fountain, depending on if you want to see them during the day or in the evening. Note: I was disappointed in the Spanish steps as well. I went in the evening, and there were many people partying there with many alcohol bottles laying around.
the Spanish Steps are just steps.... But if you walk up them, turn right and walk along the Belvedere to Villa Medici, there is a fine view of Rome. You can tour the Villa in English at noon any day. A nice respite from the city. The Trevi is best before 08:00 when no one is there. Walk through at night, but visit it in the early morning before the hoards descend. Not to miss is the Pantheon, also best early in the morning before the crowds descend.
