Time for Burano?

We will arrive in Venice around noon and then have 2 nights before heading to Naples on the train. My teenage girls want to see Burano (thanks Instagram!) but I'm not sure if that's a good use of our time. Any suggestions?

In my opinion it's not a good use of your limited time in Venice, because the travel time to get there in the lagoon and back will eat into your 2 nights (2 nights usually means 1 full day).

I probably wouldn't, because it does take quite a while to get there and back. The vaporetto boats don't always come the instant you want to get on them, either, so occasionally you find yourself waiting around. Two nights including a noon arrival basically means 1.5 days in Venice itself, at most, so some would say you barely have time even for Venice.

But...write down a list of the things you want to see and do in your 1.5 days in Venice and put this on the list. If this is higher in priority than other things, do it.

We have done Rick Steves' self-guided tour of the Laguna Islands in about 6 hours, including lunch. We've done it at least 4 times and usually leave on a 9:00AM vaporetto from the Fondamente Nova on the north side of the city. This cuts the time on the vaporetto quite a bit versus leaving from San Zaccaria. We go to all three islands - Murano, Burano, and Torcello -- and usually we eat lunch on Burano. You can easily be back by 3:00PM. So it depends on what else you want to see. The Basilica of San Marco is l.ess crowded late in the afternoon and you can get timed entry tickets making that easier.

Based on your other post it sounds like you "arrive in Venice around noon", meaning flight arrival time after an overnight flight?

If so by the time you get checked into your lodging and freshen up you will be able to do a bit of wandering before dinner and then face plant into a pillow.

The next day is your one full 'visiting Venice' day. Up to you to decide how to spend that day, depending on your definition of a 'good use of time'

The following day will be taken up with travel.

For the Instagramming crowd, I can understand why, the best photos from our trip to Venice were of Burano. It will eat up time, but I think it was worth seeing. 2 hours max to wander is all we needed. If photos are a priority, I recommend heading to Burano as early as possible in the morning before the crowds get there and into your photos. It starts to get busy at 10:00, so leave at 8:00 and have the place to yourselves for a bit.

I really did love Burano, and I'm not even on Instagram. But we took most of a day and went to Murano first, then Burano, with lunch on Burano. For us, it was worth it, but we did have two full days in Venice. If you have teenagers expressing excitement about something in Europe, it's probably wise it to make that one of your priorities.

I don’t think it’s worth your limited time. Spend that time enjoying Venice proper. Save Burano for next time.

Can we buy Burano Lace Museum tickets at the door? We are both crafty and want to visit the island for 1/2 a day.

Our family loved Burano. We got off the ferry stop before Burano,Mazzorbo. It’s a nice short walk from there to Burano. We enjoyed walking around all the beautifully coloured houses and found it very peaceful there. We caught the ferry back to Murano and while we enjoyed seeing the beautiful glass, it was too crowded for us.
