time crunch

We are on the Venice, Florence, Rome trip which will end in Rome on Oct 9, 2019. We will then take a train to Assissi for a day. We fly back to the states on Friday Oct 11 from Rome and our flight is at 6am. Any suggestions as to where to stay Thurs Oct 10 in Rome which will be an easy trip to the airport?

There are airport hotels but they're typical airport hotels, not atmospheric. You can also stay in town, Rome hotels can arrange for a taxi at any time but you will need to make specific arrangements to have your hotel reserve a taxi. Allow plenty of time. Whatever you do, make sure you get advice from the hotel on when you need to be at the airport, and also consult the airline, and then make sure your hotel arranges for a taxi to be at your hotel in time to get you to the airport at the required time. Err on the side of caution.

Where does that 6AM flight from Rome go?

If to another Schengen country, you do not need to be to airport as early as needed for a flight to a non-Schengen country.

I don't think any plane headed back to the US at 6am so it has to be a connecting flight to somewhere else in Europe. If you get to the airport by 4.30 or even 5 should be adequate. I would stay in the Termini area and take a cab in the morning to the airport. Have the hotel arrange it. There will be no traffic at that time.

We stay at the Hilton FCO when flying out early. There’s free shuttle service to your terminal.

No, it’s not “atmospheric”, but you should have gotten plenty of “atmosphere” by then.

We stay at the FCO Hilton when we have an early flight. It is adjacent to terminal and had a shuttle.
