TIM for Visitors has been replaced!!!!!!

The TIM for Visitors card has now been replaced by TIM for Tourists. The new SIM card offers more at the same €30 price. TIM TOURIST - 15GB of internet 4G - Chat Free - 200 minutes in Italy and abroad.

If you want to purchase the voucher on line prior to your trip, go to the TIM website. This will land on a page in English and you can read the explanations but the "BUY" button does not work. Switch to the Italian version and it does. (I just bought mine.) If you have a problem with the language, cut and paste it into Google Translate.

Or just use the Google Chrome browser which will translate the Italian automatically.

30 Euros for a month of data is a decent deal (especially if you need a lot of data - 15GB is way more than I would use on any trip to Europe), but if you go to Europe once a year or so you can just get a SIM that you can keep alive and re-use. I used my Dutch Vodafone SIM again in Portugal in May - cost me 10 euros for 2GB of data (which would last me about three weeks). It can be kept alive by adding credit or sending a text about once every six months. The TIM SIM makes more sense if you need to make locals calls in Italy and want an Italian phone number, but I really haven't needed that.

The FanDom blog has an interesting blurb on this SIM:

http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/Italy

For tourists TIM has released a SIM card called Tim Tourist for 20 € (+ 10 € for the SIM, including credit of 1 €), 200 minutes for call and 15 GB of data in Italy and up to 6 GB in the EU for a month.

Calls are domestic and international to 65 countries (for list scroll to Paesi Abilitati), data is on 3G/4G and will be throttled to 32 Kbps after exceeding quota. No upsize or extensions possible.

Some shops may not like to sell you this offer, as they don't get any benefits from it. Be firm and polite. You may show them a print-out of the offer or let them call Head Office. Numerous users reported problems in getting this official offer by going to more than one TIM store, but it's possible.

The FanDom blog doesn't get the difference between Tim's brand stores and re-sellers. If you enter a re-seller's shop with an online pre-paid voucher, they have no obligation to honor it and, given that they'll have to wait ages to get it reimboursed, no good reason to do it.

So how do you distinguish between TIM stores and resellers? Are all TIM branded stores corporate stores? Are the resellers called something else?

TIA

I guess in the same way you distinguish an apple store from a store selling apple products and other stuff.

Tim brand stores are quite central, big and sell only Tim Sims and Tim branded phones. Nothing else. They are displayed on the map on the official site with a different color.

I'd just avoid the voucher, that's only a way to get your money in advance, and buy the sim in Italy. If some reseller asks for 5 € more
.. who cares? Think at it as a tip for a small company that TIM expects to work for free.

I will be looking to purchase a TIM SIM card in Padua this October. There are several TIM “authorized” stores in Padua and I will visit one as soon as I arrive. I have read that the unofficial TIM stores charge €5 more than the TIM Tourist €30 package, I don’t mind that. I have also read that people experienced subsequent charges to their cc. Has anyone experienced any problems with subsequent charges to their credit cards? Also, how was service?

If you are worried about extra cc charges, then just pay the E30 in cash.

There are two 2 TIM owned and operated stores in Padova. Most convenient one is on Via S. Canziano adjacent to thePiazza Della Erbe. I arrived in Trieste last Friday with my printed out voucher, went to the TIM store there and had my new SIM in less than fifteen minutes. I’ve used their card in the past and never had additional charges added to my credit card.

Do you know if you can use the same SIM card on your next trip?

I’ve only tried the Vodafone SIM card on my previous two trips to Italy, and when I tried to use the same one from the previous year. I was told it was best to get a new one.

Have a wonderful trip!

That seems like a great price to me, and the page automatically translates if using Google Chrome. Thanks for the suggestion!!! :-)

Priscilla, I don’t know if you can use the same card again. I’ve never tried to reuse an old Tim card and I have a feeling they cannot be used after their one month expiration date.

Thanks Philip!
That makes perfect sense. How did I forget that important fact; they expire in 30 days!

Just wondering... Where are you going on this trip?

Have a great trip!

The site says that the plan is:

not-renewable

You can re-use the same Sim if you keep on topping it up every 3 (or 6? 12?) months. You won't be allowed to load another plan for tourists on that Sim.

You'll have to switch to a plan aimed to locals (or foreign residents that need to call home).

Hello, the website TIM says the Tourist offer expired 7/31/18.
Modem in Promotion
The promotion for the purchase of the modem in promotion at € 29.99 is valid until 31/07/2018, and is available at the TIM stores while stocks last: www.tim.it/prodotti/modem-e-networking / modem-tim-4g-wi-fi

Is there a new one? I couldn't find it on their website.
Thanks

Hi! I will be in Italy for about three and a half months starting next week. Which TIM sim should i opt for? Should i go for TIM FOR TOURISTS or is there any other prepaid sim that would be good? Can I top up the T for Tourists sim? And finally can i just buy it there or do I have to order it online beforehand?
Thanks in advance for any inputs!

I just paid 25€ for a TIM Sim card for a month in Italy, never ran out of data, used it non stop. Made some calls for dinner reservations, etc.too but mostly used the data.
