Tight reservations for Uffizi and Accademia

Hi,my hotel made reservations for me at the Uffizi for 4:00 and Accademia for 5:30. I assume that is a pretty tight schedule. Can I ask them to change the Accademia reservation or is it set in stone(haha) once the reservation is made? I actually only asked for reservations at the Uffizi but at one point had inquired about both places so there must have been a communication error!I was more interested in the Uffizi so I don't want to short change that experience. Is an hour enough time to get a feel for it??Grazie!

It's about a half hour walk between the two places, giving you only 1 hour at Uffizi. You'll barely get in and out the Uffizi door in that amount of time, even with reservations.

It would have worked the other way around. You can pretty well see Accademia in under an hour, giving plenty of time to get to Uffizi for unlimited time.

I don't know about canceling, but see what you can do. What you have now is not good at all.

I'd try to get a morning reservation for one of them. I'd want at least 3 hours at the Uffizi and 2 at the Accademia. Also, once you pick up the tickets, it takes time to go through security, where there could also be lines, and if you have a backpack or day pack, you may have to check it.

If you absolutely can't get the times changed, try turning up in the morning - they may give you your tickets early, or there may not be a line, or at least not a long one.

Thanks everyone. I asked the hotel to cancel my reservation for Accademia.

The Uffizzi is wonderful. However, don't miss Accademia and David. It is breathtaking. Also another wonderful museum is the Bargello. It is highly recommended in Rick's book.

Yep, the Bargello (above post) is one of Florence's better kept secrets. Overall best collection of sculptures in Florence, IMHO.

I know. I only have one day in Florence and I don't arrive until 11:30 am, so I am hoping to spend the afternoon doing Ricks walking tour, eating gelato, and then to go to the Uffizi at 4pm and then head to the Accademia after we are done.Rick had indicated that the lines would most likely be shorter closer to closing time. I am not going to make a reservation for the Accademia and if I don't get in well that is the way it goes. I don't like to be too scheduled and some times that works in my favor and sometimes it doesn't.

"I am not going to make a reservation for the Accademia and if I don't get in well that is the way it goes."

No problemo--if you don't get in to see The Original, you can always see the other version at Caesar's in Vegas (it's in better shape).

Or, if you prefer, Rick's Renaissance Walk, which you say you're doing first, takes you to the Piazza della Signoria, where you'll find a full scale replica of Dave, on or near the spot where he used to hang out, before he was moved inside to keep the Pigeon Poop off his Pristine Posterior (actually it was more to keep the rain and other environmental elements from finishing him off).

The Piazza della Signoria option saves you money by not having to fly to Vegas, right after you get back from Italy (because we know you would do that, if you don't get to see The Original).

Kind of harsh! I have been to Vegas and missed it there too. Darn! I was just trying to say that I am not going to let it ruin my vacation. So, is an hour enough time to do the Accademia justice should I make reservations? I want to experience the city too.

With only one day, mary, I'd forget both museums. There is so much more to Florence in addition to the Uffizi and Accademia. Unless you are a serious art lover, consider spending your time on the streets, with the people, sitting in the piazza, sipping a caffe or glass of vino, dining al fresco, checking out the neat little shops, strolling through the market, gaze at the exterior of the Duomo and the interior of SM Novella, amble across the Ponte Vecchio, thru Oltrarno and find your way to Piazzale Michelangelo.

I've just reminded myself how wonderful Florence is. Can't wait to get back there. 17 days and counting.

Accademia: David and the Prisoners can be seen in 30 minutes at the Accademia, not including the time spent in line to get in the door. The highlights for most people are the David and M's the Prisoners--only 5 sculptures, compared to several hundred pieces at the Uffizi.

Big difference, in time needed, between the Uffizi and the Accademia.

Uffizi: Rick's tour of the Uffizi (the one in his book) takes two hours. Uffizi is where you need the time.

And hopefully you're not planning on doing any of this on a Monday (both museums closed).

Thanks everyone. Becca you hit the nail on the head! I have actually been to Florence before and just loved meandering, but this trip I thought a little culture would be nice too.

We only had one day in Florence and I am so glad we saw David, we spent maybe 45 minutes there, with a reservation we walked right in, and we got there 30 minutes early. You can see David in 30 minutes or less really, so I would do that and skip Uffizi where you need to spend much more time. It's well worth it, I would try to get to see David first thing and spend the rest of the day doing other things so you don't have to worry about being in the right place at the right time.

Hi Sarah,
My thinking is that I may be able to pop into the Accademia about an hour before closing so I am not going to make a reservation. My husband is interested in seeing DaVinci's so that is our motivation for visiting the Uffizi. Hopefully, we will get to see both!
