Tickets to Uffizi and Borghese

We are planning on touring the Uffizi in Florence and the Borghese in Rome. Want to avoid lines and make sure we have the proper admission ticket.

In other words what is the best strategy for these and other sights we might want to see?

Thanks in advance to all

For the Borghese you must have a reservation made in advance and show up early enough to pick up your ticket or the spot will be sold. They only allow a limited number of people inside at a time, and for a maximum of 2 hours.

For the Uffizi you can reserve in advance (ask your hotel to help with that) or buy the Florence card and just walk right in.

Here's Rick's page about reserving for the Uffizi: http://www.ricksteves.com/watch-read-listen/read/articles/making-museum-reservations-in-florence

Here's the reservation website for the Borghese Gallery: http://www.galleriaborghese.it/borghese/en/einfo.htm

Note that if you will be using a Roma pass for the Galleria Borghese, you can't reserve online, and if you don't reserve you may not get in. You must reserve by phone (the number is on the page I linked).

What others noted is exactly the way it goes. I would highly recommend a guidebook (Rick's is a good one) so that questions like this can be answered with a two-minute flip through the guidebook. Have fun!

Thanks to you who have responded

BTW Maryann I do have the guidebook and just using this forum to see if anyone else had more insight or additional recent tips.

Paul,

Someone pointed out recently that at the Borghese the 2 hour time limit is for the whole "kit and kabboodle" - so that means that while its a limited number of people per admission if you are there just in time you'll be at the back of the entrance line and part of "your time" will be spent waiting for all those ahead of you to get inside and upstairs. My travel buddies thought I was a nut to have gotten there so early for our time slot but when they looked back at the line as we approached the door they surely weren't laughing anymore.

Safe and fun travels!

Lisa
What is the recommended advanced time to get to the Borghese?
I also like to arrive at events early and my wife always yells at me for being too early

Minimally, need to be at the Borghese 30 minutes early, or they have the option of reselling your ticket.

The other reason to get to the Borghese good and early is to check virtually everything on you: cameras, cell phones, purses, umbrellas, etc. You are allowed to keep your wallets and guidebooks; we bought a book at the gallery's shop before our time slot.

The museum is excellent - the building itself is fascinating - and easily seen in 2 hours.
