I plan to visit Scrovegni Chapel in Padova in a couple of weeks and would like to purchase tickets online. I'm on the website suggested in Rick Steves' book, http://www.cappelladegliscrovegni.it and it looks like I have to set up an account in which I am required to give my gender, date of birth, passport number, etc. That seems like a lot of info just to purchase a ticket. Is this unusual? Thanks.
It is an exceptionally frustrating website, but yet ever so worth wrestling with in order to get to see the Scrovegni Chapel. The passport request probably has something to do with security - it's a major art treasure that was almost destroyed and then restored. You'll see a video about that while waiting to get in.
You have to give the same information to buy tickets to a calzio (soccer) match.
Sometimes the hoops it seems you have to jump through are worth it in the end for the experience you have. This is one of those cases.
It is worth it and so beautiful to see!
Do they still offer a late evening admission? A few years ago we signed up for this option and were very happy. It was a small group, time in the chapel was longer than regular day tours, and the guide devoted much time to individual questions. Our time slot may have been as late as 9:00 PM or thereabout which also enabled us to spend all day pursuing other interests. I don't recall having to provide the information you describe, but that extended evening tour was terrific. We spent a few days in Padua and liked it. Safe travels.
Thanks for all the replies! I was able to reserve tickets but just thought it was odd for them to ask for so much info. We're taking a day trip to Padova while visiting Venezia for several days. We leave 2 weeks from today...getting excited!
