Tickets to Colloseum underground

I'm planning on going to Rome for my honeymoon. We booked a half day walking tour of Ancient Rome and the Colloseum. Now I just read about the underground tour. Can I still get tickets to the underground area at the Colosseum? Do I need to book another tour for the underground area?

Thanks

Julie, unless the tour you booked specifically states that it includes the underground (I'm guessing that it does not) then yes, you have to book a separate tour for that. You can do that here....

...and there are independent companies which offer tours as well but this one is probably the most economical. Do note that in tandem with booking the tour, you must also purchase a general entry ticket. You can do that at the same time you buy/reserve your tour through the website above, or at the reservation desk when you arrive for your tour. As noted on the website:

"IN ORDER TO VISIT THE UNDERGROUND IT'S ALSO NECESSARY TO BUY THE COLOSSEUM ENTRANCE TICKET AT THE RESERVATION DESK"

The underground tours sell out very quickly!!! Also good to note:

"Opening Underground Reservation for January 2017
It will be possibile to book on website underground Tours for individuals and underground group entrances every third Monday of the month for the following month.
On Monday 19th December it will be possibile to make reservation for January 2017.
Any online bookings made before 9.00 am (my note: Rome time) will be not valid."

The tour that I booked already has an entrance ticket included. Are there separate tickets for the underground area? If I book the underground tour, is it essentially the same information as the walking tour?

Also the website you provided, is it only valid until Dec 2016? I am planning on going to Rome in June 2017.

Thank you.

Julie, while your tour includes entry, you can't use that same ticket for a second entry to do the underground if that section isn't included on the tour you've booked. You'll have to purchase another one as your underground tour will be a separate booking at a separate time. I've no idea if the information on your walking tour will be the same as for the underground or not as I've no idea what walking tour you're taking (and haven't personally felt the need for walking tours in Rome so far).

Right. As stated above, you can only book underground tours through that site on every third Monday of the month for the following month. So June bookings aren't available until the third Monday in May at 9:00 Rome time. These tours fill so rapidly for high season that previous posters here have said that they've gotten up in the middle of the night to book. 9:00 AM in Rome, for instance, is 2:00 AM where I live.

You may also purchase your tour and entry tickets by phone if not wanting to do it through the website but again. you may very well be doing that in the middle of the night to nail a spot.

Individuals: +39 06 399 67 700
Monday-Friday 9-13:00 and 14:00-17:00, Saturday 9:00-14:00

I don't know who you booked your walking tour through but another option is to see if they offer one which includes the underground (if not included in your current tour itinerary) and if so, switch your reservation if possible.

Julie-book a tour that includes the Underground. Walks of Italy offers one. I can't imagine the attraction of a tour of the Colosseum without including the underground. Same with Vatican, book a tour that grants your early access so you get in before the throngs of people descend on the place (again Walks of Italy offers a great one). .

Are you allowed into the underground area with just the entrance tickets or do you have to do a tour of the area?

Thank you

If your tour doesn't specifically state that the underground tour is included then it's not. The information on the regular tour and the underground tour are the same, it's about the structure and the history of the structure, the difference is where you go on the tour. The underground/third tier can only be seen while on a special tour. If the walking tour that you've booked ends at the colosseum you can simply book an underground tour for a time slot after your walking tour has ended. If you visit the colosseum earlier in your walking tour you'll need to purchase an entry ticket along with an underground tour ticket in order to visit the underground/third tier. This combined entry/tour ticket will cost 25 euros per adult.
