tickets to climb tower of Pisa

The firsttime Online tickets for the tower of Pisa are only sold 16 days in advance or more. If I am visiting the first week in September can I get tickets on site if they are not all sold out? What are my chances?

Marianne, We climbed because I have 2 10 year olds who loved it and it was one of the few things they asked to do. I'm a little nervous w/heights and the top was too open for my liking. I also have climbed Notre Dame in Paris and that has more and higher fencing so I preferred that one. It also had better views than the Leaning Tower. If your daughter wants to go, I would say yes. But if you're dragging her, I wouldn't bother. As to whether it is worth the wait -- it's really a personal call, for me no, for my kids, yes.

Hi Marianne, I was just there in July (peak season) and yes, tickets were available on that day, although the next available time slot was about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs. So yes I think you would be able to get tickets the day you arrive, but you will probably have to wait, but it shouldn't be as long in September. Good luck!

Was there in mid-July but made reservations for the tower prior to leaving home. We did Pisa as a daytrip from FLorence and wanted a specific time as we were planning on going on to Lucca. Was there a few years ago with no reservations (in mid-June) and had to wait several hours for a time slot.

Thank you for your replys. Since you have both climbed the tower would you recommend taking the time to wait in line? Is it worth it? I visited about 15 years ago when they weren't letting anyone go up. This time I will be visiting with my college-age daughter-her first time to Italy.

Even if you can't book your ticket in advance you may not have to wait in line. Just make sure that the very first thing you do when arriving at the Field of Miracles is getting your Tower ticket. Then you have probably about 2 hours to explore all the sites there before you head to the Tower. We had no problems at all filling our 2 hours of wait time with visiting the bapistry, duomo, camposanto, and the museum behind the bell tower. And you can also sit down and have a picknick ...

The line itself was very short. It's just that the first available slot was 3 hours from the time I arrived. Just like with the previous poster, that was perfect time to visit the other 3 buildings on site and I also grabbed a quick bite to eat. Just buy the tickets as soon as you arrived. The view from the tower was nice, and you could see the town from above.

As I posted above, last month I purchased tickets online prior to leaving home. When I purchased my tkts. online it asked for my passport # but they also asked to see my passport when I picked up our tkts.once in Pisa. I did not have my passport with me but had a copy which they did accept. I don't recall reading anything that said to bring your passport when pkg. up tickets but I would bring it.
