Wondering if its better to buy a pass that gets us into the attractions in Rome rather than do individual tickets. Suggestions appreciated.
I'm no expert on what passes are available, but I do recommend you look into the Roma Pass. For around 20 euros, you get 2 sights for free and discounts at other sights. It also includes a 3 day transit pass that works for buses and the metro. Several large sights qualify for the pass (Colloseum and Forum counts as one entrance, Borghese Gallery, etc.) and it is not hard to make back your money.
Connie's advice is spot-on. It depends on what attractions you plan to see, of course, but for the usual tourist ones (Colosseum, Forum, Captioline Museum, etc.), the Roma Pass is the way to go. There are no passes available for the Vatican that I know of, so you won't have a choice but to get an individual ticket there.
We plan to go to the Colloseum, Forum and Borghese Gallery among other things. We will have our 7 year old with us so any suggestions for children activities are appreciated. Where do we buy the Roma Pass?
You can buy the Roma Pass at the train station...just go to the Visitor's information area (kinda hard to find, in the building that runs parallel to track 24 about 1/2 way down) and they will sell them to you. Many sights sell them as well, but there have been people who reported they planned to buy them at their first sight only to be told they were out. For what you are planning to do, the pass is a great idea.
