Has anyone purchased tickets in advance to the Duomo in Milan? I will have a day there on my way to Rick's tour of Sicily and want to visit the Cathedral, museum and the terraces (via elevator). The official site directs me to a commercial site to buy tickets (sort of a Ticketmaster) and is not completely clear on which option to choose from.

I was there several years ago and bought my ticket on the spot, thought don't know how that would work for you. If it's high tourist season, it would likely be best to purchase it in advance.

You can buy online; I think that's what I did, but they also have self-service ticket machines. I don't recall the ticket purchase as being a problem, time-wise. However, if it's high season, I recommend getting there fairly early (or late, I suppose). The difference between the line to enter at 9:00 and the same line at 10:00 was enough to make me glad I'd gotten there early. Also, the line for the elevator wasn't bad at an earlier time. Not sure what it would have been like later.
