Tickets for Colosseum/ Roman Forum

We're planning to go to the Colosseum & Roman Forum, but are wondering what the lines are like? We'll be going on a Sunday morning; hoping if we go when it opens it won't be too bad. Is it worth it to purchase a ticket in advance to skip the lines? The only problem with that is, we don't necessarily want to have a designated time that we must be there. Any advice is welcome! Thanks all!

Just buy your tickets at the palatine hill entrance or the forum entrance if the line at the colosseum is too long. Those sites usually never have a line and the ticket is good for all three sites. You have 2 consecutive days to see all three sites but you can only enter each site once.

the colosseum line is not reasonable. buy the combo ticket at the forum beforehand. this way you skip past the line at the colosseum and get right in. the forum line is very manageable. do spend some time at the forum, it is almost better in terms of the depth and variety of sites. easily the best day in europe, good for you. have fun, be safe

We went to the colosseum on our very first day in Rome, couldn't wait to see it. It was late afternoon, around 4:30. The line was pretty long but there is a separate line for visitors renting the audio tour that was much, much shorter. We loved the colosseum and stayed long enough to listen to the audio tour and then Rick's podcast. The Roman Forum was amazing too. The line was much shorter at Palentine Hill. Go check out Circum Maximus then find the entrance just down the street. We thought the forum was a bit difficult to navigate. It was tricky to find the right spot on the map, even using their audio tour. Listen to Rick's podcast first then the audio tour you rent there. I wish I had done a bit more research about the Forum before I left home. I would advise you to read up, you will enjoy it so much more.

One more bit of advice. The Capitoline Museum has the best view over the forum. Enjoy

We had Roma passes and by-passed evryone. We used the buses and metro while we were there so the Roma passes paid off.

We also went to the Palatine hill to buy a combo ticket. just remember to walk to the left of the long line at the Colosseum...and smile knowing that you are not standing in line.

The forum is free...unless they change that in the past year. The Palatine hill is a nice and uncrowded spot to walk through. Just make sure you have a good guide book for the forum and palatine. just so you have a good description of what you are looking at.
