I am trying to buy tickets ahead of my trip online and I was suprised that for the Boboli Gardens and Pitti there were specific entry times? Are these "hard and fast" meaning you can only get in at that time, or is there flexibility? Thank you
Those times are "hard and fast." Be ontime. They only allow a designated number of people in at any one time to avoid over-crowding of the site. I personally, appreciate it. I will tell you, though, regarding Boboli -- unless you are there during a good flower season, it's not very impressive, compared to some other fabulous gardens in the world like the Alhambra in Spain and the Vatican Gardens, and some others. I was there in March, and it looked pretty shabby. Just my opinion, not wanting to offend anyone who loves Boboli!!!
Thanks so much. Do you (or anyone else out there ;-) ) have experience on whether there are long lines or the possibility of either Boboli or Pitti being "sold out"? We wanted to go on a Saturday the last of September. But not knowing the rest of the trip are hesitant to commit to times so far in advance. I know places like the Academie and Uffizi, one could be at risk but not sure here.
Can't speak for them being sold out, but we went last Sept - it was a Sat, the 22nd...we got there fairly early (we were leaving Florence by early afternoon and this was our only stop before leaving) - I don't recall a line up - there were not very many people at all early on a Sat (I'm thinking we were there about 10am by the time we got from our B&B to the bus, to the train stn to leave our luggage, to the bus taking us to Pitti)...but we did have a timed ticket for Accademia...thank goodness. the long line stories are accurate! But I think with Pitti you'll be fine if you get there early-ish
If you're planning to visit Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace on Saturday, September 28, that's one of the free museum days (also Sunday, September 29). There will be no cost to enter either site (all state museums are free those 2 days) and, last time I visited on a free museum day, there were no entry times for the gardens. There will be a security line to get into the palace and gardens, but it moves along relatively quickly.
