Ticket-Evading Tourist

reading in telegraph.co.uk a young american female tourist throws herself into grand canal from vaporetto to evade the ticket she didn't have or buy. the police have to "fish" her out and she is fined for jumping and also no ticket. this is an OMG moment along with SMH. undesirable behavior of tourists in lots of cities that locals and residents have had enough of. hope these visitors have deep pockets!

I think it stands for "shaking my head" but I don't generally use these abbreviations myself so I could be wrong. YMMV.

Maybe she can pay for her travels by selling tickets or collecting tips to see her dive. If it works in third-world beach resorts, why not Venice? ;-)

Remake of "Overboard" with Goldie Hawn?

Is there a video...asking for a friend.

Ingesting canal water could be a death sentence. Jumpting into the Venice sewer system is not a very swift thing to do.

Edgar, that was my first thought. I think leptospirosis used to be a risk.

I think the citizens of Venice (few though they be) would object to their canals being referred to as sewers.

young american female tourist

Given that description, she almost certainly had a phone. Is a new phone cheaper than the 'no ticket' fine?

Venice is very unique in terms of its sewage disposal; the canals
are the main way waste is disposed of in Venice
, though new
technology has improved the sewage aspect of Venice's infrastructure.
However, bringing a more modern, efficient sewage disposal system to
Venice is a challenge that currently has many obstacles.

The city does not have a complete modern sewage system, meaning its
canals are also its sewer system. This poses some obvious health and
sanitation concerns.

Both the above sources are wrong as they make naive people like Edgar think that human waste ends in the canals.

Blase ; from a big city perspective, seriously you never know if these events are the result of untreated mental illness (deep pocket or not); moreover the media always exaggerate stuff and this is not the first time something like this has happened
