I am traveling from Rome on to Sorrento with stop at Pompeii. I understand that I am purchasing train tickets in Naples to get to Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana. My question has to deal with do I purchase
One ticket from Naples to Sorrento (get off in Pompeii) and reboard with same ticket
OR
Purchase ticket from Naples to Pompeii, visit Pompeii, then purchase ticket from Pompeii to Sorrento
Also what is estimated ticket cost from Naples to Sorrento?
You can use the same ticket only if
1. You buy a BIGLIETTO ORARIO (time ticket) rather than CORSA SEMPLICE (single ride)
AND
2. You utilize the time ticket all within 180 minutes. That basically would mean your Pompei visit would be awfully short because you need at least 3 or 4 hours to see it.
If you intend to visit Pompei for an appropriate amount of time, you should buy two separate single ride tickets (BIGLIETTO CORSA SEMPLICE)
Napoli to Pompei (€2.80) then
Pompei to Sorrento (€2.40)
As you can see prices are low. Of course the prices above do not include the amount that the pickpockets may take from your pockets while en route. That amount, which is distributed to the community, varies from €0, if you stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, to everything you have in your wallet, if you don’t.
Purchase ticket from Naples to Pompeii, visit Pompeii, then purchase
ticket from Pompeii to Sorrento
This is what you need to do as you'll need two separate tickets to get off the train, see Pompeii, and then get back on again. Don't forget to validate your tickets before boarding the trains!
