Tiburtina Station...Tips about where to stay?

Last night near this station, and concerned about area.
I see a few places very near station, some East of station. Any tips about hotel/B&B location as far as the station goes.

Are you thinking of staying in that area for that last night because you're planning on dropping your rental car there? Would you be open to jumping the metro to a location a bit further in? Somewhere near Termini would place you a short walk to the express train to Fiumicino the next morning.

The FL1 train from Tiburtina works too, of course, but the Express is a little faster (32 min. versus 47) although also more expensive.

I'm just thinking that a location further in might be more convenient for that last-evening walkabout.

Yes, we thought dropping the rental there would be easier than Termini, as we have heard there are great difficulties with driving in the area. Accommodations are "iffy".

Personally, I'd just get on the metro and get yourself a little closer in. As you will already have been in Rome earlier in your trip, you could tuck a few BIT tickets in your pocket to have at hand for that last night. The metro will take you right into Termini in a matter of minutes. You may also be using metro to scoot over to the Vatican for your 2:00 reservation. For that matter, you could probably stay near the Vatican if you wished to - although you'd have to change metro lines from B to A at Termini anyway.

But that's just what I'd do: lets see what the others might have to advise? :O)

I did as you suggested. Got a place closer to Vatican and very close to Metro.
Silly question...what are BITs?

BIT is a transit ticket good for 100 minutes on bus or metro.

LOL, Sue: the only silly question is the one never asked!

BITs are single-ride tickets for Rome public transport. They cost 1.50 euro apiece, and are good for a single metro ride (you're allowed to switch from A to B lines at Termini as long as you don't go outside of the turnstiles), regionale trains to the last allowable station on the lines (not to the airports) and multiple transfers on buses and trams within 100 minutes of validation.

One-day and multiple-day passes are also available:

I've bought ours a few at a time at newsstands, bars and tobacco (tabacchi) shops which have the "Biglietto ATAC" signs - meaning they sell them - and you can purchase them at stations as well. They're good until validated so you can buy them when it's convenient and just tuck them in your pocket for when you need them.
