I'm going to catch the first morning bus to Siena. If anyone knows what the pickpocket crowd is like in the early a.m., please share you thoughts. I am an older woman and will be traveling alone. I can't believe the PP Union would have their people out that early but I've been wrong before. Thanks for reading this message.
Sherry, That's an extremely difficult question to answer There's no way to predict whether any pickpockets will be working in the early hours of the morning. The best practice would be to assume there are pickpockets working the station, and behave accordingly. I assume you'll be using the Metro to travel from Termini to Tiburtina? Be sure maintain your "guard" when you're in Siena, as there are pickpockets there too! Happy travels!
Thanks for the reply. I'll be mindful of my surroundings at all times.
You always assume pickpockets are around but if you have nothing of value that they can reach, then you have nothing to worry about. Use reasonable precautions and they will pick on someone else.
Pay attention to your surroundings and zip your bags and hold on with your hands. Lock luggage while on subway/bus and make sure you can see them @ all times. Leave the expensive jewelry @ home. While I did not have any problem in Italy I nearly got robbed twice while in Madrid, in front of the Royal Palace and in Lisboa last month. They dress and act like tourists. In Spain the gypsy teen (she didn't look like a gsypy until I saw a rough looking lady next to her) was walking next to me and began to unzip my bag. I had my bag to the side while I put my camera in my pocket. It was raining and I got too much on my hands and for a second I pushed my bag to my side. I wore my hobo in front of me most of the time. I felt the pressure and turned around. She immediately put her "Spain" guide book up her nose. While in Lisboa, I was walking up the stairs to a cathedral and a young man came out of nowhere reached for my bag with force but because my wallet was clasped to my purse, he couldn't take it and I wore my bag across my shoulder. I smacked him immediately and he ran. I had my bag open to retrieve my guide book and I was 5 ft from entering the cathedral. They catch you when you least expect it.
Thank you so much for your reply. I will consider your experiences lessons in caution and be very mindful of my surroundings at all times.
Thanks again.
