Tiburtina Rome Bus Station at Night

I am a 65 year old woman traveling alone by overnight FlixBus from Tiburtina Bus Station to Alessandria (Piedmont) in Oct. The bus leaves at 9:55 pm. I've traveled all over Italy since I was a young girl, but have always been careful to be in company or to stay in safe areas at night. I just booked my ticket and THEN decided to look up the bus station. Everything I read is that the station is deserted, there is an open-air parking lot, no police and it is dangerous. Has anyone been at this station in the evenings and can you give me an idea of where I might go (a restaurant or cafe) while I wait for the bus? I will be driven there from Southern Italy and in all likelihood will be waiting on my own. I am having second thoughts about this. Italy has certainly changed in the many years I have been visiting. I am heading North to see an ailing aunt and am thinking I might have to take a plane and pay a private driver a large sum of money to get me to my destination. Any thoughts or experiences shared would be most appreciated.

I don’t know what the Tiburtina bus station looks at night, but I don’t see why you are taking a night bus. Flixbus has only 3 runs a day (with 2 of them requiring a transfer), but there are trains all day that can take you to Alessandria in considerably less time (most with a train change at Milan). I would have opted to go by train.

Tiburtina bus station is adjacent to Tiburtina train station, so you could wait inside where there are coffee shops, rest rooms and other services until your Flixbus is ready to load.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I am traveling to Rome with two friends who are being dropped off at their hotel to depart the next morning. I will then be dropped off at Tiburtina. The bus brings me directly to Alessandria Station without having to transfer. My family members can pick me up easily in the morning, rather than having them drive hours to get me in Naples. Sigh, I though this would be the easiest and most direct. And it actually is, except for my worries about the bus station.
