Thursdays special opening at Villa Pompeaa, Oplontis

From 12 February Thursdays, from 10.30 am to 12.00 pm, visitors with a standard ticket for the Villa Pompeaa, Oplontis – with a maximum number of 10 people at a time  - can enter some areas of the excavation accompanied by the Park staff. It is a unique chance to get a first-hand view of the activities currently underway during the excavations and the restoration of the exceptional frescoes of the Hall of the Mask and the Peacock, one of the most elegant rooms in the villa, decorated in the Second Style. No booking, so come early, tour is in Italian but frankly I'd just love the access. I imagine the archaeologist would answer questions in English at the end.https://pompeiisites.org/en/comunicati/new-excavations-at-villa-poppea-to-open-to-the-public/. I loved Oplontis, now I'll have to go back. Even without this tour i highly recommend people make it part of your day to Pompeii.

Agreed! Hey Allan, I seem to recall you spent quite a bit of time over 2 days at Pompeii, or was it 3? I'd encourage people to spend more than a day at Pompeii, it's a huge site & even with a half day tour like the one we took with Askos, it only covered a small part of the scavi. Estimated Prophet said they took a private tour with Askos to Herculaneum, Stabiae, and Oplontis and it was fabulous. Sigh......

@Sandancisco, yes we spent a couple of weeks in Sorrento in 2023 that included 11 hours in Pompeii over two days, plus a trip to Oplontis. Also a day in Herculaneum and then some time in Naples at the museum. No definite plans yet, but we do have a vision of a few days in Naples and a few in Capri, so we'll add a return to Oplontis.
