Hello All. I’m posting in hopes of receiving recommendations for an area(s) to base ourselves during our three week trip exploring ‘small town’ Italy, this October. As this is our fifth visit, we’ve ‘done’ the big three -Rome, Florence, Venice-, Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre, Lake Como area. We enjoyed only a short time in Emilia Romagna -Parma, Bologna- and plan to explore more of this area! Also, though we’re not interested in winery tours, we certainly want to explore more of the medieval towns of Tuscany!
We are in our mid sixties/early seventies and have driven in Italy many times but on this visit we would like to have a central ‘home’ with good train/public transport and accommodation options in city centre. We would like an extended stay in one or two locations to focus more on observing daily Italian life instead of having to rush the day to our next adventure.
I’m thanking y’all in advance and excited to read your recommendations/advice.
