Three days in Aosta Valley

We will be in the Aosta valley in late August- my wife and I and our great nephew. We plan one day for a mountain lift (Monte Bianco or Matterhorn), and two days for hiking (medium strenuous).
Village selection: In the Dolomites we have enjoyed Selva, val Gardena, rather than Cortina. In the Swiss Alps, Murren suited us perfectly. We like to hike straight from our village, rather than driving to a trail. In the Aosta Valley we are looking at Breuil-Cervinia or Courmayeur, but would consider other recommendations. Has anyone had trouble with altitude sickness in Breuil-Cervinia? It is higher than we have stayed before.
Accommodations: We want two bedrooms, prefer two baths. Medium cost. Local flavor and personality is valued, rather than glitz and glamor. View of the mountains is a big plus.
We welcome any and all thoughts and recommendations about the Aosta region.
Thank you in advance,
John

I guess Aosta isn’t a popular destination for travelers on this board. We’ll be there in June. We’re staying in Aosta city for four nights. We’ll spend a day and a half on city sights, a day on Monte Bianco (hoping that the Panoramic crossing to France will be open), and a day hiking in Gran Paradiso. If you PM me in late June, I’d be happy to give any suggestions I have from our trip.

Enjoyed Courmayer for a two day stop on the Tour du Mont Blanc but did feel that it was more than enough time spent there. Monte Bianco was awesome though. Ristorante Cadran Solare was amazing.

We were there pre-COVID with friends wanting to find his grandmother’s village. The town of Aosta itself is wonderful, has Roman ruins, very walkable and some amazing views. It was a pleasant change from the bigger cities we had been to. We stayed at the Hotel Cecchin which was perfect for our needs. Great location and very helpful and pleasant staff.
