Giddy to travel internationally again, my sister and I have booked flights and some hotels for three weeks in Italy for May 2022. (The boss is just going to have to deal with it.) This time, it seems prudent to stay in one country. We arrive in Milan and leave from Rome. So far, we've fixed 3 nights in Milan, 4 nights in Lake Como, 4 nights in Florence (just didn't get enough last time) and are ending with 4 nights in Rome. However, this leaves 4 nights hanging. We like a few "down days" in a trip at an Airbnb in a scenic place to relax and rejuvenate. Not to mention laundry... As I live in a landlocked state, a bit of time by the sea always rounds out a trip for me.
We thoroughly enjoyed Cinque Terre on our last trip but would like to experience something else. Originally, I'd thought about the Amalfi coast but it seems like a bit of a trek with some backtracking to Rome. However, especially since we've never been there, would the Amalfi area be worth the travel? If we're in that area, we'll probably want to do Pompeii but it seems like a day trip. I worry about that cutting into our seaside time. Is there anything on the Adriatic coast that might be doable? We travel by train or bus. I'd prefer to never drive in Italy. Does anyone have suggestions?
