My first day in Rome will be arrival date on Wed Oct 7. I am traveling to Sorrento on Oct 11. I want one day for Ancient Rome, one day for Vatican City, and I want to do a day trip by train to Orvieto. I was going to do Vatican City on Thurs Oct 8 , Orvieto on Oct 9- and Ancient Rome on Saturday Oct 10. My thought was I wanted to be in Rome the night before checkout . I am concerned about doing Ancient Rome on a Saturday, and wondering if I should swap it out for Orvieto on a Saturday, and deal with packing up the room after Orvieto. I see opinions that the tourist sites are always crowded, so I wonder if it will be that much worse on Saturday in October. Thanks in advance.
Keep it as is. Rome on Saturday isn’t any different than any other weekday. I wouldn’t want to travel away the day before leaving.
However your stay in Rome is very short, only 3 full days, so I’m not sure if I would bother to use a day for Orvieto, I’d devote the full 3 days to Rome, but it’s up to you.
Roberto, Thank you for your reply. Perhaps I should not over plan this and wait to see when we get to Rome. I, too, am starting to think I am not leaving enough time in Rome. After Sorrento, we are going to Sicily, so I will be able to experience other places that are not "city" . I think that was what I was trying to accomplish in making a day trip from Rome.
I have been to Rome 4 times and Orvieto once and I would keep the current schedule. To me, one day for ancient Rome and one for Vatican City hit the highlights of Rome. The facade of the church in Orvieto is a Wow.
