Thinking about a day trip from Rome center to Castel Gandolfo area for an afternoon.

Is there any tours, good private car/van company or maybe just uber? Looking for any advice on travel out there for four first timers.

We once stayed at OliveTreeHill.com, a great B&B in Zagarolo 20 miles south of Rome.
There is an incredible number of travel sights on the Roman suburbs. Our host took us 1500 ft. up to Castel San Pietro and we hiked down 3000 year old walking paths to a pagan temple, Palestrina. The city had been built over the temple until Allied bombing in WWII uncovered the temple. Palestina has now been excavated and is a very interesting museum.
Ivano also has a bunch of other travel sights he takes people to. He is also famous for his midnight tour of Rome--under the lights--when traffic is light.

We went there on a cold rainy day in November, and LOVED it! We just went via train. Super easy from Rome Termini. Direct - no changes. FYI it's a hike up the hill from the train station to the town so you should be ready for that. We ate at Cucina Romana Sor Capanna. Good pizza!

We took a Vatican by Train tour in fall of 2015, It is a pretty full day. Or you can simply take the train to Castel Gondolfo, but the villa and gardens are a far superior experience to seeing the Apostolic Palace which is basically a gallery of papal paintings. Cute town for lunch, though.

PM me if you want more info.
