Things worth doing/seeing in Rome/Venice/Florence

Hi y'all,
My husband and I are going to Italy second week in March (just around the corner). We are just trying to narrow down our itinerary for tours versus just self-guided and big sites to see. I am going a bit crazy with people saying do this but don't do that. Get a tour guide versus just see it on your own. We are doing 4 days in Rome, 3 in Florence and 2 in Venice. May add a day trip on somewhere. We like to walk and can make the best of any situation. We are not HUGE museum people so we will only hit the major sites there.

So I guess any recommendations for the big must sees (especially Rome, Florence) and better with tours versus better off just self guided?

Thanks in advance.

Invest in one of Rick’s Italy guidebooks to see the descriptions of various sites and the ratings given for them. It also describes day trips from major cities. Download the free Rick Steves Audio Europe app. It has a wealth of information and downloadable audio tours and audio walks for most of the major sites and cities. I use my iPhone as my travel resource with downloaded guide book, audio tours and maps.
