Four of us will be taking a trip to Italy in Sept. Our itinerary, as of now, is to fly into Genoa and out of Rome. 3 nights in Cinque Terre, 2 nights in Florence, 2 nights in Sienna and 3 nights in Rome. I am curious as to what we should plan to do near Sienna. When I did some research, it looked like many Sienna was a day trip from Florence and the activities suggested for Florence swere the same as those listed for Sienna. IE - visiting other tuscan towns. Our friends are wondering if this is too much time in that general area. Suggestions on an alternate itnerary or ideas on how to spend out time? We enjoy museums, architecture and cities for a while but really enjoy more of an active vacation. I am having a hard time finding things to do outside of the hike in Cinque Terre. We aren't opposed to traveling to another area if that is a suggestion. Thank you in advance.
You can see all there is in Siena in a half day and an evening. After that, it's soaking up whatever it is one soaks up or making excursions. Rome could use an extra day to two. One 'N' in the name of the town and province.
Will you be having a car in Siena? If so, I would add a night to that area and see any number of villages, vineyards, etc. in the area. Just start driving and you will find something amazing. I would take a night from CT and add it somewhere else, especially if you are having a hard time trying to find things to do. Good idea to add it to Rome.... or Tuscany.
Thank you.
