I'm making a stop in Turin for about 6 hours- we have tickets to see the Shroud (couldn't bring ourselves to pass up the rare display) and aren't really sure what else to do with our time there. Any suggestions? We'll arrive around 11am and aim to leave on the 4:40pm train, with our Shroud reservation at 1:30- so basically I am leaning towards unique restaurants or perhaps a quick walk to some sites near the Cathedral. If we have to content ourselves with a gelato or two, so be it :) Thanks for any suggestions- this has been the least of my concerns about this trip and I really haven't put much thought into it!
Just in case your interested in Egyptian artifacts Turin has as Egyptian Museum that's supposed to be excellent. I must confess it's on my list BUT I haven't actually been there!
And this one's on my list of to-do's, hope to visit it one day: the National Museum of Cinema, which looks really spectacular, housed in the unusual building called the Mole Antonelliana.
thanks for both of those suggestions!
I second the National Cinema Museum, I would also recommend taking the elevator all the way to the top of the Mole to see the view. The Egyptian museum was a bit overwhelming, that's a lot of Egyptian artifacts to digest in one sitting! Turin itself is a lovely city to walk around in, and with block after block of covered walkway, it really doesn't matter if it's raining.
