Hello everyone, I'm taking the other half to sorrento for a surprise birthday getaway mid october. We have 7 nights there and want to make sure we see the must see's, do the must do's and eat the must eat's!! Just wondering of anyone has any advise on the above that that stood out for them. Do far I've got Capri but not sure about tour options, amalfi coast and Pompeii! We are staying half board at hotel de la ville but keen on eating out most nights! Thank you in advance

Make sure you have a meal at Ristorante Bagni Delfino on the waterfront. Fabulous seafood, great setting by the colorful boats.
I recommend splitting your stay between Sorrento and the Amalfi coast if possible, just a couple nights. Day tripping to the other side of the peninsula could get tiring. There's nothing romantic about riding that bus there and back, sweating the schedules. If the ferries are still operating, use them. The views from the sea are unparalleled. You'll want to see Positano, and I highly recommend Ravello.
There's not much to do in Sorrento, but it's certainly charming, relaxing and awash with nice restaurants. The old port is the place to be at sunset. Everyone seems to have their preferred seafood restaurant there, I'm not sure you can go too wrong. You'll have lots of time to see Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples. All are easy trips from Sorrento.
Also, the pastries in the region are generally out of this world. Sample as many as possible.
Thank you so much for your replies I'm very excited to try these places out!! Do you have any advise on the Capri trip? Can it be done with a simple ferry crossing and exploring by ourselves or is it worthwhile to get one of the expensive tours?
Well, you do have to go to Capri, and a day trip is easy enough, and one ferry ride.
We spent a week in Positano, had a great time. I like the coast much more than Sorrento but its personal choice. Do see Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello while touring. You can get there by bus and I think by ferry. Seeing the coast by boat is spectacular.
While going to Pompeii you should think about taking in Herculaneum (Ercolano). It is better preserved than Pompeii and a great compliment to Pompeii.
Thank you
Seeing the coast is high up on our list and by the looks of it may have to be a bus as the ferries seem to shut down October time. Not to worry I'm sure the bus will be eventful:) and it seems like there is more than enough places to keep us busy through the week. Thank you
Great place for lunch or dinner in Positano.

Also check out the restaurant In the Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi.
Both are relatively expensive, but location and great food kinda makes you forget that.
Ristorante Grotta Palazzese in Polignano a Mare - I don't know how good this is, but it looks fun !
Take a cooking class with Mama Agata in Ravello - this day long class is a treat with wine and delicious food you cook and expansive views over the coast
Swim in the Furore Fjord
Hike the Path of the Gods - you can take the bus from Positano up to Nocelle and follow the signs - even if you hiked for a short time and came back, the views are delightful
You can do Capri on your own. Just ride the ferry over, take the funicular up to the top, and get away from the crowds.
You can take the bus or taxi up to the chairlift to Mount Solaro to view the Fariglioni Rocks and then hike down.
Follow the Pizzolungo path - the views on the island are spectacular
Hike to Villa Jovis and also the Via Krupp gardens

On our last visit to Sorrento we had a fabulous meal at Ristorante Delfino's in Marina Grande and the people that run it are so very nice. We also had a good meal at Inn Bufalito. Yes, you can easily do Capri on your own. Heading back here in October and can't wait!
Delfinos is Definatly a +++ in Sorrento.
Superb feedback very helpful thank you
Capri
Pompeii
Path of the gods/ develop
Amalfi
Naples
And a few nice meals should give us all we need
Delfino's looks very nice and seems to be the popular choice, just a thought, neither of us are massive seafood fans (lame I know) is there a range of other dishes such as steak/Italian that would still make it a nice place to eat?
My wife isn't a big seafood fan either. You will find a lot of good things, and places to eat no matter where you are, and where you go. So don't sweat it.
Positano to me is a must. At some point I want to spend some time there, like a few weeks to a month, but haven't done that yet. Almalfi was also good, and the bus ride down to me was part of the thrill of the trip. Lots of beautiful views, so sit back and enjoy.
