Isn’t it sad? Seems to me that this is how tourists can have way too much influence on traditions and ways of life. I vote to have it reinstated!

“The complaints started after we digitalized the sound of the bell striking and the clock 18 months ago.”

Does this mean they are playing the sound of a bell through a speaker, rather than 'ringing' the real bell?

What will they ban next, ....wheeled luggage on the cobblestone?

Most towns prohibit churches from ringing the bells at night. And it's the locals who require it.

Try to live near a church with a bell 365 days a year, and have to wake up for work every morning, then we'll hear what you think.

Those Italian villages may be just a theme park to visit for 3 days every so many years for most of you, but real people actually live there all year around. They are not miniature Disneylands for those residents, they are places they must live and work.

That is especially true when you consider that in American suburbs people will not hesitate to call the police whenever they hear fireworks once a year on July 4th, or whenever there is the occasional loud party in the neighborhood and they can't fall asleep because of it.

Mille grazie, Roberto da Firenze! I'm also tired of tourists who say (way too outloud), 'if they want my money, they better learn to speak English'. Hint: they don't want 'your' money, so feel free to go home.
