There's A 'Fountain' of Trouble At Rome's Fountains

Have you seen this yet? Someone defaced the Fountain of the Moors at Piazza Navona, then apparently threw - unsuccessfuly - the pieces at the Trevi Fountain. I would make a joke about the culprit being a former Texas Rangers pitcher...We finally got some pitching; Go Rangers!!! http://news.yahoo.com/fountain-romes-piazza-navona-vandalized-132825639.html http://www.euronews.net/2011/09/03/rubble-trouble-erupts-in-rome-s-fountains/

FYI I saw this too and it appalling, so much so that I was going to post it here. I've done that twice before , with news would clearly be of interest to folks who post here. But every time that I did the Webmaster took it down and admonished me that I had violated the Rules because only postings seeking information are permitted here. That's ok with me, after all RS is providing this helpline to us for free. Anyway the Webmaster may ask you to move this Graffiti. I am glad that they caught the moron chipping Coloseum souveniers and I hope they make an example of him.

Eileen - read the article before I saw your comment on the Rangers' pitching. My first thought was - how can you possibly throw a rock at the Trevi Fountain and miss??? Thanks for the post.

So Sad. I still have to adjust to all the grafitti & tagging everywhere in Europe every time I visit. I live close to Chicago and see a fair amount of grafitti but not like Europe and their tolerance of this behavior.

Pab, I'm with you. It's bad enough to see ugly soundwalls on the highways 'tagged' in the USA (it's NOT art), but when I see ancient marble with something really dumb spray painted on it - like "rocks tuna" - I just want to say 'of ALL the places to use your spray can...' arrrggghhh!!! I'll be in Rome in a few weeks, taking careful notes on the state of things ;-)

SAD, SAD, SAD... Did he ever give a reason why he did it? I didn't know that pitching for the Texas Rangers drove ball players to defacing public fountains. All kidding aside, what... the hey? Huh...? What? He did what? Definitely this is a disturbed individual.
