Any recommendations for theatre, music and dance other than the huge, famous venues like La Fenice, La Pergola and Teatro Verdi? We're going next week.
I hover between amusement and irritation that the only Vivaldi available anywhere, played live, is "The Four Seasons."
That's because it is the only Vivaldi anyone recognizes.
It's more like "that's the only Vivaldi EVERYONE recognizes."
We saw a Vivaldi concert in Venice and loved it.

In her recent book about Venice, Judith Martin (aka Miss Manners) jokes about how she and her friends are always on the look out for a concert in Venice that doesn't include Vivaldi's Four Seasons on the bill. They rarely succeed.
I'm here in Venice right now and was looking for something different since I already did the Vivaldi thing back in May. I will be attending a Jazz concert this evening held at what seems to be the Prison that the Bridge of Sighs leads to. It's performed by the Venice Jazz Quartet. I am a lover of Jazz - so this is fitting for my last evening before returning home. This concert appears to occur in April, May and December. I suspect there will be other performances held at this and other Venues. Check out whatsonwhen to see what is happening all over Italy. Enjoy!
We were in Venice in November and attended an opera at Palazzo Musica. It was Barber of Seville and was quite good--the old palace is interesting. Most hotels can provide information--a bit tricky to find the place. At that time there was nothing at LaFenice but you can tour it for 5 euros and that was very worthwhile.
For concerts in Venice, you cannot avoid Vivaldi. There is a church call St. Vidal just south of the Academia bridge that plays the Vivaldi Fours Seasons every other day. Tickets sells for 24Euros. I went there three times already. Excellent value, also do not miss the vail lady marble statue on the left hand side of the stage. Florence is not famous for her music, I went to a church concert once but it was not very good. Stck to fine food (really nice steak called Bistecca alla Fiorentina) and the art museums in Florence.
