The Sita Bus or arrange for private car tour?

Hi, We'll be in Sorrento for 3 days.We plan to see Capri, Amalfi and Pompeii. We plan to take train to Pompeii and join a tour- maybe, Walksofitaly. We'll take boat to Capri and take lift to Anacapri. Not sure if we have time for Blue Grotto. I realized that we don't have enough time, for Amalfi, instead of taking Sita bus, is it better to take private car tour? Will the Bus be so very crowded. Not sure how much car tour is- There will be 4 of us.Thanks.

sally, Hiring a car and driver would certainly be the easiest way to get to Amalfi, provided your budget allows for that. With four people sharing the cost, I'd certainly consider it. There are reliable Drivers listed in the Guidebook.

Hi Sally, I know that there are many other more experienced travellers to AC but in my experience, the Sita was is a great transportation service BUT, in the morning as you line up to catch the bus in Sorrento, there will be many, many others also waiting. The right hand side of the bus always fills up first for oceanside view. We chose to wait for another bus which put us near the head of the line and were able to get seats for the view. It's a slow ride over to the other side of the peninsula but so interesting with all the lovely houses and lemon groves that you don't notice. You can get off at the first Positano stop (at the top) or continue on the bus to the lower stop. We did the upper walk and it was spectacular. The important thing to know is that when you want to re-board the bus to continue on, it is usually full from the Sorrento passengers. We chose to take the fast ferry to Amalfi , spent a couple of hours exploring and then ferried all the way back to Sorrento. We bought our ferry tickets at the dock, no advance reservations. What a wonderful view of the coast. For 4 of you, a private tour could help you fit in all of your wish list and be affordable too. Others can probably give you more ideas as to tour options/ costs. Ciao, Sherry

Thanks Sherry, I will follow your suggestion if we decide on taking the Sita Bus.

How crowded the bus will be depends entirely on when you will be there. I was in Sorrento in early-mid April '08, and some but not all of the buses were already crowded. That can be a good thing - I rode one stretch standing right at the front, with a great view!

I plan on being in Sorrento at the end of July. If I want to take the SITA bus in the morning to arrive in Positano by 10:00 am, what time do I need to get to the bus in Sorrento to guarantee a seat on the right side?
