We are in Lecce now for 4 nights and plan to drive the Salento hitting Otranto, Gallipoli and Galatina. Is it worth a drive down to Santa Maria Di Leuca where the Adriatic meets the Ionian? Also is Galatone worth a visit? Thks!
We spent 4 nights in Lecce early last March and also visited Gallipoli and Galatina on one day trip and Otranto and Santa Cesarea Terme on another. That gave us 1.5 days in Lecce. For us (early 70s) the additional time driving was not worth the drive to Santa Maria di Leuca, though I would have liked to see it. If you have the time it might be worth the drive even if just for the scenery. Did not go to Galatone as Gallipoli and Galatine were a full day. Hope this is helpful.
Thank you carol! Today we visited Gallipoli, Santa Maria De Leuca and Otranto. The coast drive from S.M. De L. To Otranto was beautiful with pull offs along the highway & spectacular weather! Decided to skip Galatina & Galatone.
