Packing is becoming a nightmare. I'm leaving on Tuesday for Italy (Rome, then Florence, then Venice) and I keep checking the weather forcast on both the weather channels website and weather underground and I'm finding Rome predictions of 70 and 75 respectively. All my previous guidance said upper 50's/lower 60's for this time of year. So my packing plans are going out the door. Do you think I can rely on these website's predictions? Or should I pack warmer clothes. What about for sleep wear? I've heard there's no heat or a/c during this time of year so should I go for warmer sleep wear? Help!
I would take clothes that would be appropriate for the 70 temp and then take a few layers that you can use in case its cooler. I have a midcalf black soft knit skirt , and if it is cool I can always put a pair of black leggings under it... you can also sleep in these. Bring the thinest long sleeve black t shirt to layer under a top, and you can also sleep in it. Be sure to have a pashmina or two. If you are cold at night you can use your pashmina as a little blanket, or on the plane. You won't be needing summery sundresses so, I wouldn't really pack a whole lot different from 60s to 70s. If it gets really cold you can buy something. A scarf around your neck can take the chill off a cool morning and you can stuff it in your purse if it warms up in the afternoon.
I think both temps are accurate - maybe 50 degree (F)nights and 75 degrees at 3pm. I find that on a 50 degree morning, a light jacket is fine, especially if I'm walking. As the morning warms up, I can tie it around my waist or put it in my backpack. Then, as the temps drop in the evening, I put it back on. Dave
I think it can be 70 on the day you arrive and only up to 50 a day or two later. I was there a month ago and the forecasts at 7 a.m. were as often way off the mark as they were close to reality. Heat and/or AC depends on your hotel. If you are concerned, email them and ask.
You don't say how long you're going to be there, but I definitely second the leggings suggestion and maybe a couple of scarves, although you can always buy them there. The weather this time of year can be all over the place and what you see here in the US will be heading to Europe. I know you won't have a/c this time of year since I believe Italy has rules about the time of year you can have a/c and this isn't the time.
