The Piedmont region

I have made plans to spend 3 days in Turin and would very much like to go to Sacra de San Michele or another beautiful spot in the region. When I use google maps by way of a train from Turin the end result is a 50 minute walk/hike up to the abbey which will not work! Any suggestions regarding other transportation to the site OR recommendations of another site equally beautiful would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We did not do that day trip from Turin, but I can attest to the ease of renting a car there if you want to try that transportation for your trip. We rented through SIXT at the main train station and had no trouble avoiding the ZTL on our way out of town.

Have a great trip. Turin is fantastic.

There is a shuttle that makes various stops in town, including the train station. It runs April 1 to October 31, per the link below, which also details the times and the stop locations. (In Italian, but just use your brower’s translator or Google Translate).

Shuttle Avigliana to Sacra di San Michele

There is also taxi service from the train station for a bit more. When I visited, I rented a car and picked it up a short walk from the Porta Nuova train station, which was on the way out of town towards Avigliana, so no central-city driving required. So that’s a third option.

In any case, the abbey is truly stunning and well worth a visit. I also enjoyed the town of Avigliana. And for a special treat, stay overnight at Certosa1515, a former convent in between the town and the abbey.
