I am interested in going to the Palio in Siena. I read about the Dinners the few days before, the different free race locations and prices for tickets in balconies, etc.
Has anyone been? What kind of schedule do you recommend--2 days before a race, do 2 days of races, etc. TIA. jk
We went two days before and had a great time!
In 2023 we attended the July 2 race. It is all very exciting as the streets of Siena are alive with activity. The trials and the race all take place in the Piazza del Campo from June 29 - July 2 and August 13 - 16. The dinners (the 10 Contradas running) happen the day before the race. For dinner tickets you will have to contract the Contrada directly. The trial runs are free and happen twice a day on the three days before the actual race. As for getting tickets to the race, the prices vary with each owner of the seats and are difficult to come by. We started our search in November of 2022. In January we were offered tickets for 600 euros each which we refused. Finally in the middle of June we were able to purchase ticket for 300 euros each.
