My wife and I had a great time today in the company of Raffaele Monetti. Recommended by Rick and we can see why. He picked us up at 8 am in Sorrento and took us to the ruins at Paestum, a terrific lunch in Ravello then back up the Amalfi Coast with several stops. We went way over time wise, got back at 7:30 instead of the planned 6 pm. Never looked at his watch or made us feel rushed. Even at the last stop, he gave us plenty of time to wander around before meeting up with him again. We have been to Italy 8 times (always traveling on our own) and are comfortable with the language and driving, but would not have enjoyed doing this trip ourselves. Traffic wise, the Amalfi Coast is everything it's reported to be (and this is only the middle of March) We really considering using a driver. It is so nice to pull into an unfamiliar town and not have to worry about where to park, having to carry everything with you because you can't leave it in an unattended car, etc.
Jeffrey, Thanks for posting about your experiences with Raffaele. I'm sure the fees were a bit of a "splurge" but good value for the reasons you mentioned. I'm sure the information will be useful for others here. If you're still in Sorrento and have some money left in your budget, you might try L'Antica Trattoria for dinner (it's listed in the Guidebook). Cheers!
