Has anyone toured the Marches area of Italy? Ascoli Piceno, Ancona, Urbino etc.? I will be going to an artist retreat around the area of Ascoli Piceno and would like to rent a car and see some sites. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

parco regionale del conero. i have friends who went to numana as a sea-holiday and really enjoyed it. i saw pics they took on fb, really nice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numana - further north, i would go to urbino http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urbino and repubblica di san marino http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Marino,_San_Marino but maybe too far for you. -
further south, you're close enough to visit parco nazionale del gran sasso http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Sasso_e_Monti_della_Laga_National_Park
