I just found out about an eight-episode series on Disney Plus that may be of interest to Sicily fans. It’s called The Lions of Sicily and is based on a series of novels by Stefania Auci. The show centers on the life and times of the Florio family that started with one small business and grew it into an economic empire including the tuna industry, shipping, shipbuilding and mining, among others. Ignazio Florio is well known in the Egadi Islands, as he purchased Favignana to grow the family’s tuna business. The series was filmed in Trapani, Palermo, Cefalu and Marsala. The series is in Italian, but subtitled.
Just read book one of the 3-book saga, in French translation. Easy to read, narrative. The book lends itself to a tv series perfectly. It was incredible what this family accomplished.
So funny -- I read book #1 (also in French since it was easily available) a few months ago ! I bet the series is good.
