I will be in Milan for one day (May 30). I called up the call center in Milan to reserve 2 tickets to the Last Supper. Apparently the entire Saturday is fully booked. Has anyone had luck in doing a random walk-in to see if other customers gave up their tickets? I thought I might get lucky.
We too wanted to see The Last Supper during the one day we were going to be in Milan and tickets were sold out. However, we did a google search for tickets and found that there are two or three companies that buy blocks of tickets and then sell them through their own website. Names escape me at the moment but after our second try, we found the tickets we wanted. You have to email your request and they get back to you whether they have tickets for that particular date and time. Good luck!
How far in advance to you need to reserve tickets? We are travelling next February - any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you,
Stella - You should have no problem in reserving tickets for Feb 2010. I am reserving mine 2 months in advance. I should have reserved them earlier knowing how popular the Last Supper is.
Terry - Thanks for the suggestion. I found several private operators on the Web selling the tickets. Please let me know if you recall the name of the operator you dealt with previously.
We tried to book a reservation months in advance only to find nothing was available. We ended taking a Viator of Milan that included the Last Supper. It cost a few bucks, but it got us in (and the city tour was pretty good!. Anyway, we have travelled extensively throughout Europe -- and a few quiet minutes in the presence of daVinci's Last Supper ranks as one of our most cherished experiences. It was a nice contrast to the crowds you often experience in art museums.
Here is a link for the Viator tour:
I had the same thing happen to me last year. My wife and I got there with no tickets and loitered around for a few minutes. A tour group leader came over to us and told us two people from her group were no show and would sell us tickets for face value. We took them and went in with her and her Japanese tour group. There were also a few other people outside doing the same thing. Maybe the stars were aligned that day, but it does happen.
