Has anyone stayed at the Jewish ghetto. I'm visiting in May. I will be staying at the b&b little queen. Please let me know what you think of it. Also can you recommend some interesting restaurants etc.

Don't specifically know your hotel, but this is a great area to stay in! It's very close to Trastevere, and people have raved for years about the Artichokes that are common in all the restaurants in the Ghetto! Take a look in the RS book, he makes all kinds of recs regarding restaurants in both the Ghetto and the Trastevere area which are very close. I think you've made a great choice! One thing, if you're not Jewish, remember the Sabbath will be from Friday sundown till Sat. Sundown, and the restaurants are all closed -- so make sure you get at least ONE meal there before Friday! We missed our only opportunity!

Oh my Gosh. Thank you for the info regarding the Jewish Ghetto. I just checked and yes I will be arriving at Friday noon on May 18th, 19th and leaving around 10:00am Monday. Does this mean I will not be able to get anything to eat. My room includes breakfast. Maybe I should rethink this and get a place just outside of the Ghetto. If everything is closed it will not be very interesting. I only have those few days before my cruise. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks for helping me with this info.

Grace,
There are many restaurants nearby the Ghetto. It is just a hop from Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona, Trastevere. You will not go hungry. Get out and walk to explore. Rome is very compact, especially in the historic center.

Grace, you'll be able to find a couple of restaurants open on Saturday on the main street in the Ghetto, and many more just a few blocks away, Your b&b can make recommendations. Everything will be open on Sunday, including the Synagogue (frequent tours in English). Rome has the oldest documented Jewish community in Europe.

Dear Grace! I didn't mean to scare you! This is a lovely place to stay...I was just letting you know that if you were wanting a Jewish meal when the closings would be. Like the above poster pointed out, you're so close to so many areas in Rome with lovely restaurants, you will surely find many options to eat! I still think you've made a lovely choice in a hotel!

I want to thank all of you for replying to me. As I am traveling alone and never been to Rome I really appreciate your comments.

Rick has two audio guides for the area, one for the Ghetto, and one for Trastevere. You can download them for free. They are interesting, each about 45 minutes long. There are others for other places in Rome, and elsewhere, too.

Check out the blog "Parla Food" for great restaurant suggestions. She also sells a Rome Foodie app. Nonna Betta is apparently a wonderful restaurant in the Jewish Ghetto.
